Michael Hicks is a partner in the firm's Lubbock office. Michael's principal areas of practice are business and commercial law with an emphasis on representation of financial institutions. His practice includes representation of lenders in a wide variety of matters, including permanent and construction loan originations, loan workouts and restructurings and real and personal property foreclosures. In addition, his practice includes business entity selection and formation; mergers; acquisitions; and filing applications to federal and state regulatory authorities. These applications have included obtaining approval of acquisitions; bank branch establishment and relocation; and private securities issuances. Michael also has extensive experience working closely with the firm's litigation attorneys on complex litigation matters involving loan workouts, bankruptcies, lender liability defense, real estate and construction disputes, and related litigation matters. Michael has also gained substantial experience in the area of renewable energy, with a particular focus on wind energy. His experience includes representing landowners in and around the south plains and panhandle of Texas in negotiating and drafting wind energy leases. Mr. Michael received his B.A. degree with honors from Angelo State University in May of 1992. He received his J.D. degree with highest honors from Texas Tech University School of Law in May of 1995. Mr. Hicks was a recipient of The Order of the Coif designation for high attainments in the study of law. While in law school he was a member of Phi Kappa Phi and was a Vice Chairman of the Board of Barristers. He competed twice on the National Client Counseling teams while at Texas Tech. Mr. Michael is a member of the State Bar of Texas, the American Bar Association, and the Lubbock County Bar Association.
